WALSALL Football Club helped raise over £2,500 for 'Help for Heroes' as part of the Football League's 'Football for Heroes' week.
The Football for Heroes week is taking place between March 6th and 14th allowing the whole of The Football League to show its support for the efforts of our Armed Forces.
The Saddlers held their game against Millwall on Saturday, 6th March and promoted the campaign in a variety of ways.
A military band played before the game and at half-time and military personnel formed a Guard of Honour for the two teams entering the field of play before kick-off. The armed forces also provided 12 mascots to escort the Walsall players onto the pitch Information stands and a variety of vehicles were also on site to give supporters a better insight into the work undertaken by the Armed Forces.
Thanks to the generosity of Walsall supporters, £2,354 was raised on the day through bucket collection and the club also donated the 50/50 matchday draw proceeds (£267) to Help for Heroes, meaning the final total donated was £2,621

"It was an excellent occasion," explained Saddlers' Chief Executive, Roy Whalley. "We are fully behind Help for Heroes - the Football League's nominated charity - and were only too happy to get involved.
"It was an ideal opportunity to show our gratitude for the work being undertaken by British forces in Afghanistan and other parts of the World and raise awareness of the sacrifices being made in defending Britain's interests around the World."
Captain Makand Singh, Regimental Operations Support Officer, 159 Supply Regiment, Royal Logistic Corps, added:
"159 Supply Regiment, Royal Logistic Corps, is grateful to Walsall Football Club for this fruitful partnership that has raised this sum of money in support of Help for Heroes.
"Walsall are a football club that are very supportive of its Army and I would also like to thank the very generous community of the West Midlands."
