DEENEY GOING FOR GOALS

Posted on: Mon 22 Feb 2010

TROY Deeney's winning goal against Brentford on Saturday was not only The Saddlers' 3,500th home goal in The Football League, but it was also Deeney's 11th of the season, leaving him just one short of his total for the whole of last term.

"Following Julian Gray's recent arrival, we now have wide men on both wings with an attacking mentality," he said. "That can only benefit the team and I feel that both Darren Byfield and myself are going to get chances in every game.

"I'm on 11 goals now, so hopefully I can beat last season's tally and help the team continue in good form and push on up the table.

"We did well down at Yeovil in December. It's never an easy place to go, especially on a cold and wet Tuesday night in December, and I am sure they will feel the same coming here.

"It's up to us to turn it on again and give the home supporters something to cheer about. We need to be consistent and get a positive run of results under our belts to keep us amongst that pack of clubs in the top half of the table."
