DEENEY LOOKS TO PUT A MARKER DOWN

Posted on: Tue 02 Feb 2010

TROY Deeney is looking for The Saddlers to put a marker down this evening as we play host to promotion hopefuls, Charlton Athletic (kick-off 7.45pm).

"We showed Charlton too much respect away from home," he admitted. "Tonight we will have our supporters behind us and we must look to take the game to them.

"We want to put a marker down and get back into winning ways. It's a game that we are all looking forward to.

"Against Norwich we did very well until the final 13 minutes or so and we have to look to build on the positives from that. At Gillingham on Saturday everyone put their body on the line to keep a clean sheet and it was a case of digging in to bring home a point.

"The defence did well on that occasion and that breeds confidence throughout the rest of the team.

"Charlton are a good side with some quality players, but all the pressure will be on them tonight. We have to make sure that we put in a performance for our fans, who are going to be important for us.

"We've got to do more for them and give them the excitement that they want and deserve."
