HAVING been appointed into The Saddlers' hot-seat on January 20th 2009, Chris Hutchings' first game at the helm was a 1-1 draw with Hereford United on Saturday, January 24th 2009.
Since then he has overseen 45 League games. Here are some of the highlights... so far:
WALSALL 1 LEEDS UNITED 0 - 31/1/2009
Chris Hutchings' first victory came in front of a packed house at Banks's Stadium as the much-fancied Leeds United were deservedly beaten courtesy of Troy Deeney's early goal.
WALSALL 3 BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION 0 - 17/3/2009
After a heavy defeat in the previous home game just days earlier, The Saddlers displayed tremendous character to tear apart Brighton. Finding ourselves 3-0 up within the opening 39 minutes with goals from Mark Bradley, Troy Deeney and Anthony Gerrard, it proved how good we could be if we put our minds to it.
MK DONS 0 WALSALL 1 - 25/4/2009
We ended our 2008/09 away League programme with a deserved victory over a side who, going into the game, were still in with a shout of automatic promotion. Looking solid all over the park, Jabo Ibehre's second half goal was the icing on the cake to send the travelling support - many of whom were in fancy dress - home happy.
NORWICH CITY 0 WALSALL 0 - 5/9/2009
The Saddlers defended resolutely and worked hard to bring home a point and a clean sheet against a free-scoring and expensively-assembled Norwich side. That said, we also had the opportunities to win the game in front of a crowd of over 23,000 at Carrow Road.
WALSALL 2 HUDDERSFIELD TOWN 1 - 29/9/2009
A fine comeback was capped off with Dwayne Mattis' late winner against his home-town club to give us a good three points and a morale-boosting victory over one of the fancied sides in League One. It was also our first home win of the campaign.
WYCOMBE WANDERERS 2 WALSALL 3 - 31/10/2009
A first half horror show was transformed after the break as two goals in the final ten minutes from Mark Hughes and Alex Nicholls completed a breath-taking comeback. The game looked over at the interval, but The Saddlers came out with renewed vigour and determination at the start of the second period to turn things around.
YEOVIL TOWN 1 WALSALL 3 - 1/12/2009
The Saddlers put in the perfect away performance against a side who went into the game having lost just once in their previous nine home League games. Having grabbed two early goals, we were forced to battle against high winds and driving rain throughout the second half and in the end fully deserved our success.
