SADDLERS PUT THROUGH THEIR PACES

Posted on: Thu 07 Jan 2010

WITH a 4.00pm pitch inspection planned at Southend ahead of Saturday's game, a fourth successive postponement looks likely. "It's pretty much a case of waiting for the inevitable," admitted manager, Chris Hutchings. "It's disappointing to have so many matches called off, but we can't do much about the elements.

"What we can do is continue to go about our business in the same way. We are fortunate in that we can alternate between the gym and Field Turf rather than be stuck indoors all of the time like some clubs.

"We are lucky to have that option and the Field Turf is really proving its worth to us now as we have been able to get out and do some ball work, which is a massive plus.

"The lads here are a good bunch who have really worked hard over the past few weeks to maintain their high fitness levels. Credit must go to John Whitney whose efforts and dedication is really appreciated by the players, even though they don't tend to show it when he puts them through their paces!

"Should Saturday's game fall victim of the weather, the players will be in training over the weekend in preparation for Tuesday's game against Norwich."
