SADDLERS' boss, Chris Hutchings has expressed his disappointment that our game against Norwich City was called off by Match Referee, Matt Haywood less than an hour before kick-off.

"The pitch was in better condition today than it was against Leyton Orient in our last home game," he said. "It's extremely disappointing; there was only a very small area of the pitch that gave the referee concern, the rest of it was perfectly playable.

"A lot of people have put an awful lot of hard work and effort in throughout the last few days and I would like to thank them most sincerely. At the end of the day it is the referee's decision and we have to go along with it.

"It's frustrating, particularly after last week when we played on arguably a worse pitch, but we are in the hands of the referee and we have to abide by his decision.

"It doesn't make the decision any easier to take and it's a shame for those supporters who have made the effort to turn up and have had a wasted journey."

The Walsall players immediately went up to the Field Turf for a training session, minus Steve Jones who is set to have another scan on the troublesome groin problem that has laid him low in recent weeks.
