TON-UP FOR BYFIELD

Posted on: Mon 07 Dec 2009

FRONT-man, Darren Byfield notched his 100th career goal on Saturday, but it wasn't enough to overcome the challenge of in-form Southampton. "It was nice to finally reach 100 goals," he said. "It's just a shame that it was merely a consolation effort - it wasn't even that good a goal, to be fair!

"I thought that Southampton opened the scoring against the run of play, but they are a good side who grew in confidence after they took the lead.

"They have spent a lot of money and have quality throughout their side. They will be there or thereabouts come the end of the season.

"We'll keep going and I can see no reason why we can't go to Millwall at the weekend and bounce back in the right way. We did it at Yeovil after our FA Cup exit and we can do it again."

Byfield spent just over a year at The New Den after joining the club in readiness for the 2006/07 campaign. "I enjoyed my time at Millwall," he added. "Their supporters were upset by the way I left the club, but there were good reasons behind that decision.

"They gave me plenty of stick when I played there for Oldham at the start of the season and I am expecting more of the same on Saturday, but I will take it on the chin, as I always do."
