MATT Richards fired home his first League goal for the club with a superb free-kick in our 2-0 victory over Stockport County.

The summer signing from Ipswich Town is hoping that it will be the first of many goals in Walsall colours. "It was very nice to score my first goal for the club from a free-kick," he said. "I feel that I can certianly contribute more goals for the team and have been working hard to get into the right areas.

"I am happy with the way things are going for me here; it's nice to have the confidence of the management and as a team I feel that we are getting better and better.

"We have proved that we are good going forward with some sharp players like Darren Byfield and Steve Jones, who are both in excellent form right now, alongside Troy Deeney who holds the ball up well and has plenty of enthusiasm.

"Fitness is so important in this League and everyone is willing to go that bit extra. We're confident of getting into that top six and really making an impact."
