STEVE Jones is hoping that his goalscoring appearance off the substitutes' bench against Carlisle United at the weekend will stand him in good stead as he looks to establish a starting place. "I was pleased to get on and make an impact," he said. "Hopefully by scoring it will stake my claims for a place in the starting line-up.

"It was a great shot by Troy and I thought it was going on, but it came off the inside of the post and fortunately fell straight to me.

"At that stage I thought the three points were ours, but unfortunately it was not to be and the lads were disappointed at the end.

"From a personal point of view, I want to get a run of games under my belt, improve my match fitness levels and push on from there.

"The team is gelling together well and it bodes well for the future. The key is consistency; the table is still so close at the moment and we want to give the supporters something to cheer about.

"We travel to MK Dons on Saturday knowing that it will be tough, as all games are in this League, but also determined to extend our unbeaten run."
