HUGHES ON HIS RETURN TO ACTION

Posted on: Tue 22 Sep 2009

SKIPPER, Mark Hughes was back in action at the weekend in our draw with Swindon Town as he replaced Manny Smith, who picked up a knee injury in training on the eve of the game.

"It was your classic game of two halves," he said. "We should have been three or four up at half-time, but knew that they would come at us after the break and we found ourselves under pressure for much of the second half.

"We've got to be more ruthless and be able to finish games off."

It was Hughes, back from a hip injury, who conceded the penalty from which Swindon grabbed their equaliser as he was adjudged to have handled Tope Obadeyi's cross. "I thought it was a harsh decision," he added. "The referee said that I had my arms up, but how can you make a sliding challenge without raising your arms?

"I couldn't possibly get out of the way.

"It's gone now and we have to get on with it. The positive aspect is that we didn't lose the game and were able to extend our unbeaten run.

"Now we must go to Hartlepool on Saturday and look to get another result."
