SHOOT-OUT HEARTBREAK FOR HUTCHINGS

Posted on: Wed 02 Sep 2009

SADDLERS' boss, Chris Hutchings has reflected upon our Johnstone's Paint Trophy penalty shoot-out defeat at the hands of Bury. "We were the better side in the first half, but it didn't quite go for us," he said. "We missed a couple of decent chances during the course of the game and they all add up.

"The tempo was better than on Saturday, but small margins make all the difference and that was the case in the penalty shoot-out.

"Looking on the positive side, we have to build upon these two consecutive clean sheets. I thought that Clayton McDonald came into the heart of the defence and did a good job for us. He won headers and got in timely tackles and I was pleased with the contribution he made in his first game.

"Rene Gilmartin also came in and kept a clean sheet, whilst we were able to get 85 minutes of action into Darren Byfield.

"Win or lose we are always looking to work on things and improve. We must now turn our attentions to Norwich on Saturday. There is sure to be a great atmosphere at Carrow Road and it is a good place to go and play football.

"I have no doubts about our ability and we are looking forward to the game."
