CENTRAL defender, Anthony Gerrard has completed the formalities of a move to Championship outfit, Cardiff City.

The Saddlers will receive an undisclosed fee for the 23 year-old which meets our valuation and we also retain a pecuniary interest in his ongoing success.

"We thank Anthony most sincerely for the service that he has given to the club over the years," said Chief Executive, Roy Whalley. "He is an ambitious lad who wants to play at a higher level and we wish him every success in the future."

Gerrard initially joined the club on loan from Everton, where he came through the ranks, towards the end of the 2004/05 season and after an impressive spell completed a permanent switch.

A solid and no-nonsense performer, his first full season at the Banks's Stadium ended with him scooping the Player of the Season award, a prize that he also claimed in 2007/08.

Attracting plenty of interest in recent years for his consistent displays in the heart of the back-line, he has served the club well.
