SADDLERS' midfield man, Dwayne Mattis has a spring in his step after becoming a father for the first time last week when baby Leo arrived into the world.

"There have been a few late nights, but I am loving fatherhood," he said with a broad smile. "Both mother and baby are doing very well and the family are chuffed to bits.

"At 27 it is a good age for me to become a father for the first time."

Mattis was laid low with a sickness bug over Easter and started the last game against his hometown club, Huddersfield on the bench, but he is back to full fitness and raring to go for our trip to MK Dons on Saturday. "I'm looking forward to the game," he added. "They need to win so all the pressure will be on them.

"It's a nice stadium to go and play our football and show people what we are capable of on the big occasion.

"Hopefully I can get back into the starting line-up. I played for the reserves on Tuesday and have trained hard all week.

"Looking back over the season, we've been too inconsistent. We've had some good results, like the victory over Leeds, but then lost games that we should have won.

"We have to aim to get a level of consistency and get into that top six next year. The manager wants to add some extra quality to the squad over the summer and push us on from there."
