SKIPPERS' DELIGHT
STEPHEN Hughes was delighted to get his name on the scoresheet on Saturday as The Saddlers extended their unbeaten run to four games.
The Saddlers' skipper broke the deadlock at Northampton before Jabo Ibehre ensured a 2-0 victory for Chris Hutchings men.
"I was delighted to score," he said. "I got a bit of stick afterwards because, when the lads saw me breaking through, they thought their defence was going to catch me. I'm not the quickest but it was a good finish!
"We were delighted with the three points. Northampton is a difficult place to come and it was a real battle.
"We're unbeaten in four now and it's all about going on little runs. In those games you can see the improvement in the shape of the team and how we try to break opposing sides down.
"We are on a little run now but it was only the week before last that the press were asking me about a relegation battle. Fingers crossed, we can climb away from that and maybe we could just sneak into the play-offs race. You never know.
"There is a real never-say-die attitude among the lads. We have a very small squad but a good blend of young and old and are really together."
