THE SADDLERS have today completed the signing of Welsh International, Stephen Roberts.

The 28 year-old defender has signed a two-year contract at the Banks's Stadium.

Roberts came up through the ranks at Wrexham before joining Doncaster Rovers in the summer of 2005. During his three years at the Keepmoat Stadium, Roberts made over 80 appearances and played an important role in Rovers' promotion to The Championship last season.

His form last year earned him a call-up from John Toshack to the Welsh squad, where the defender was an unused substitute for a friendly clash against Luxembourg. "Stephen is a proven, quality player at League One level," explained Saddlers' boss, Jimmy Mullen. "He played a major role in Doncaster's success last term and we are delighted to have him on board.

"He is beginning to earn International recognition and I believe he can play a major role in what we are trying to achieve here.

"After plenty of hard work and negotiations in recent weeks this is the first of a number of new signings that we will be announcing in the coming days and weeks."
