THE SNOW was the real winner during the month of January 2010 as the worst winter weather for 30 years hit football fixture schedules up and down the country.

Our first action of 2010 came some 16 days into the New Year as a fantastic effort by the Banks's Stadium staff ensured that snow was removed from the pitch and our home game against Brighton & Hove Albion could go ahead.

Sadly, we suffered a 2-1 defeat despite Matt Richards hitting a sweet equaliser against the club that he ahd previously served on loan.

Our next opponents were high-flying Norwich City who arrived at Banks's Stadium looking to strengthen their position at the top of the table.

However, for just over 70 minutes it was The Saddlers who were on top and deservedly ahead thanks to Troy Deeney's goal.

The visitors were given a lifeline thanks to a mistake from Clayton Ince as he failed to claim a cross and then proceeded to snatch the winner with just five minutes left on the clock.

It was a disappointing set-back for Chris Hutchings' men who more than matched their lofty opponents.

The third and final game of the month came at Gillingham as we kept a clean sheet in a battling goalless draw down in Kent.
