THE MONTH of March got underway at a wet and windy Glanford Park where The Saddlers shared the spoils with Scunthorpe United in a 1-1 draw.
Kayode Odejayi gave the home side the lead with just ten minutes left on the clock, but Walsall hit back with an impressive equaliser from Troy Deeney five minutes later.
In the end, former Saddler, Joe Murphy was the hero as he made a string of fine saves to deny Chris Hutchings' side what would have been a deserved victory.
Another away assignment saw us head for Southend United where a red card for Michael Ricketts in the opening quarter-of-an-hour made an already tough task even more difficult.
The Saddlers were able to frustrate the home side during the opening period, but former loanee, Kevin Betsy grabbed an early second half goal as The Shrimpers went on to secure a 2-0 win.
The travelling contingent got a first glimpse of new loan signing, Robin Shroot who made a lively substitute appearance.
A run of three home games in the space of a week started with the visit of Crewe Alexandra.
In what was an even contest, Troy Deeney's goal just before the hour-mark looked like giving Walsall all three points until a scrappy equaliser from Steve Schumacher deep into stoppage time at the end made it honours even.
Worse was to follow as Bristol Rovers ran riot in the following game.
The Pirates found themselves three goals to the good in the opening 20 minutes as The Saddlers simply fell apart.
The final scoreline was 5-0 in what is best described as a bad day at the office.
A different Walsall side turned up for the next game against Brighton & Hove Albion as an impressive first half display saw us go in at the break 3-0 up.
Mark Bradley, back in the starting line-up in place of Stephen Hughes, opened the scoring before the in-form Troy Deeney doubled the advantage. Anthony Gerrard added a third before the break to put Chris Hutchings' side well and truly in the driving seat.
The only downside to the game was a second half injury to Anthony Gerrard as Walsall got back on track in fine style.
A trip to Leyton Orient followed and in the London sunshine, The Saddlers made it two victories in a row courtesy of Mark Bradley's well-worked goal on the stroke of half-time.
It was a workmanlike rather than spectacular performance from Walsall but yielded three good points from a side that went into the game on the back of three wins.
The month came to a close with the visit of a Cheltenham Town side who were battling for their League One lives.
The visitors took an early lead through Frankie Artus' wind-assisted effort that beat goalkeeper, Rene Gilmartin, who replaced Clayton Ince who was away on World Cup duty with Trinidad & Tobago.
Walsall were well on top after that but only had an own goal to show for our efforts as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
