CAPTAIN'S BLOG

Let's get the bad news out of the way first.

It's been a disappointing few days on the field. We did okay down in Brighton for the first half an hour but, after that, they were the better team and when that happens you come away with nothing.

Then, on Tuesday evening, we went out of another cup competition at the first hurdle.

Everyone was gutted. We wanted to do well in and go far in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. We all know it's our best chance of getting to Wembley. I'm fortunate to have played there and, if we'd have won on Tuesday, we'd have been a step closer to getta Wembley appearance.

The lads were down afterwards but we've picked ourselves up and want to put things right on Saturday.

On to the good news (for me any way).......I'm back!

I'm over my Achilles injury now and am in contention for Saturday. Obviously it's up to the gaffer about whether I start or am on the bench but I'm just pleased that I'm available for selection.

I hate being injured. It's bad enough that you're out but, when you're being beasted by Jon Whitney in the gym while the lads are out on the pitches, it makes it even worse.

This week I've been able to join in and it's been great.

To celebrate I've just been out and bought a pair of Adidas F50 adizero - the same ones that Lionel Messi wears. I'm hoping that they'll have the same effect on me!

It's been a decent day off to be honest. I had a massage this morning (at a shop not a parlour must add!) and feel good. This, along with new boots, has put a spring in my step and hopefully that'll show if I'm selected on Saturday.

Before I go, I've got to mention Aaron Lescott. The lads went to Brighton last Friday and stopped overnight for the game. They met up and jumped on the coach. 'Aza' grabbed his stuff out of the boot of his car but left it open. Thankfully, one of the office staff (thanks Vicki) let him know halfway down the M40 when the alarm was going off. What a plonker!

To be fair, Aza's a good lad and he's one half of the new Laurel and Hardy, which used to be Manny (Smith) and Troy (Deeney). Aza's taken Troy's place and those two are the jokers at the minute. Thing is, many should spend some more time on the weights rather than telling jokes. He's not as ripped as he used to be...........

Finally, last week I said I was going to see 'The Last Airbender' after Marshy (Paul Marshall) said it was the best film ever and Jon (Macken) said it was terrible. Well, I can officially say that Marshy hasn't got a clue. It's rubbish.

See you Saturday, new boots and all...

Darren
