I WENT for an injection on Tuesday for the sore Achilles that left me limping after Saturday's game at Brentford.
It seems to have improved as the week has gone on and I am hoping to be back in training with the rest of the lads on Friday. I don't want to be missing games, particularly after we claimed our first win of the season last weekend.
We were buzzing on the way home from the Capital. It was a much-needed win and breeds confidence that we will take with us into Saturday's game against Plymouth Argyle.
Our all-round performance was better; we battled well as a team and even at half-time, after they had grabbed an equaliser late in the first half, I knew that we would go on and win the game.
It's interesting to note that for the first two games of the season I wore the captain's armband on my right arm, but for the last game I wore it on my left arm... no prizes for guessing which arm it will be on in the next game!
I was really pleased to see Alex Nicholls find the net at Griffin Park. He was pretty down after the Tranmere game, but I had a word with him and said how easy it is for us strikers to go from villain to hero. That's the way it goes, and hopefully there will be plenty more goals to come from Alex and myself, particularly with the added competition that Jon Macken and Reuben Reid will bring.
It's good to have competition; Reuben did well for Rotherham a couple of seasons ago, whilst Macken is someone I know all about. He is a different type of player to both Alex and I and his presence, and indeed higher level experience, can only benefit the team.
As we look ahead to the visit of Peter Reid's Plymouth, we know that we are going to have to continue working hard to maintain the standards we have set ourselves. We want to put on a performance for our home fans and show them what we are capable of.
Away from football it's been a very quiet week for me. I have been giving my Achilles plenty of rest and just relaxing in order to be ready for action on Saturday.
Until next week...
Darren
