SADDLERS LOOK TO STEAL POINTS FROM THE IRON

Posted on: Fri 03 Feb 2012

THE SADDLERS travel to Scunthorpe United on Saturday looking to bounce back from Tuesday's home reverse at the hands of Notts County.

Experienced duo, Jon Macken and James Walker both picked up first half hamstring strains against The Magpies and had scans on Thursday to determine the extent of the problem.

Both players are likely to be out for at least a fortnight, which means David Grof (pictured) will be in goal, whilst George Bowerman, Will Grigg and Ryan Jarvis are all pushing to replace Macken.

Youngster Bowerman is yet to start a game for the club and The Iron will recall what Grigg is capable of as he scored a wonder-strike against them here in September. It was a goal that has made the final ten of the Mitre Goal of the Season award.

Former Scunthorpe man, Kevan Hurst will be keen to be involved in the action, whilst loan capture, Florent Cuvelier will be hoping to build upon his impressive second half showing in the last game having come off teh substitutes' bench.

Skipper, Andy Butler comes up against the club where he started his career.

Scunthorpe United go into the game in 21st position in the table - level on points with The Saddlers. They have just two wins from 14 on home soil and have drawn a total of 13 League matches this term, the same as ourselves.

Iron boss, Alan Knill will be able to call upon four new faces having signed young Wolves left-back, Jamie Reckord on loan alongside defender, David Mirfin, who returns from Watford, bustling front-man, Jon Parkin (from Cardiff City) and free agent, Robbie Gibbons.

He is hopeful of having Christian Ribeiro back after he suffered a facial injury early on in the last game. Likewise Cliff Byrne could return after a groin problem laid him low and Damien Mozika is nearing a return to action following three and-a-half months out with an ankle injury.

Still on the treatment table is Connor Jennings (metatarsel), Jimmy Ryan (knee), Michael Collins (Achilles), Jordan Robertson (hip) and Matt Godden (hip).

If you are unable to make it along to the game, fear not as Saddlers Player will have live, full match commentary...
