Youth team suffer defeat at Morecambe...

THE SADDLERS' youth team slipped to a 3-2 defeat at Morecambe.

"The conditions were difficult," admitted Academy Manager, Neil Woods. "We went a goal down after ten minutes against enthusiastic opponents and this gave them the impetus to go on and double their advantage soon afterwards with a stunning strike.

"Having found ourselves two goals down, we started to play the way that we know we are capable of and Alex Reid was able to reduce the arrears and get us back into the game.

"We ended the opening period on top playing some neat football but went in at the break 2-1 down.

"The game became patchy into the second half due to the conditions, but we managed to get back on level terms when Jordan Sangha did well before setting up substitute, Levi Rowley who made no mistake.

"Our hosts went on to retake the lead with another long-range effort that flew into the back of the net and this proved to be the winner.

"Whilst we had energy, our football lacked impetus. We are playing a 4-4-2 formation at the moment and it is taking some of the players longer to adjust to it.

"It was a disappointing result in the end, but we will take the positives out of it and it was good to see three Under-16 players involved with an eye towards next season."

WALSALL: Lovett, Ashmore, Lewis, Kinsella, K. Rowley, Christopherou, Rush, Sangha, Bakayoko (L. Rowley), R. Reid (Shakespeare), A. Reid (Kaymar). Subs not used: Dallison, Jones.
