Deserved victory at Blackpool for youth team...

THE SADDLERS' youth team started their Football League Youth Alliance campaign with a good 2-1 win at Blackpool.

"In very difficult conditions, with hail and high winds, both teams put on a competitive game," said Head of Acedemy, Neil Woods. "We created the better chances during the opening period but didn't control the game as much as we would like to.

"Tevin Shakespeare hit the woodwork whilst we also created a couple of other decent chances but it was goalless at the break.

"For the opening 25 minutes of the second half we really got hold of proceedings and Levi Rowley gave us the lead before a neat move ended with Luke Delaney's inviting cross turned into his own net by a home defender.

"To their credit, Blackpool refused to let their heads drop and after they reduced the arrears it was backs-ti-the-wall for 20 minutes or so, during which time our boys showed fantatsic desire and commitment.

"It's always nice to start with a victory and whilst in footballing terms we know that there is plenty of improvement to be made, the attitude and endeavour of the lads really impressed me and we deserved to win the game."

WALSALL: Jezeph, J. Smith, Probert, Sangha, K. Rowley, R. Smith, Delaney, Kouhyar, Shakespeare (Owen), L. Rowley, Reid (Pooni). Subs not used: Ottley, Oliver, Lewis.
