WOODS DELIGHTED WITH DISPLAY

Youth team breeze through in Midland Youth Cup...

THE SADDLERS breezed through in the first round of the Midland Youth Cup with a convincing 4-0 victory at Grimsby Town.

Goals from Levi Rowley, Luke Delaney and a brace from Tevin Shakespeare capped a good night's work for Neil Woods' side.

"It was a big night for the boys," said Woods. "We started brightly and got control of the ball and game quickly.

"We played some good football, without threatening our hosts' goal in the opening 25 minutes.

"Eventually we managed to get the breakthrough when Tevin Shakespeare did well to set up Levi Rowley who found the net.

"It was the least we deserved as we went in at the break one goal to the good having dominated the opening period.

"We were equally as bright after the restart and as Grimsby started to tire having chased the game throughout, we were able to add to our lead.

"The second goal saw Levi Rowley link up with Luke Delaney and he did well to finish. Then Jamie Smith fed Shakespeare who made it 3-0 before he completed the scoring with his second goal of the evening.

"It was a very pleasing performance in all aspects of our play; we were bright with the ball and competitive and calm without it."

WALSALL: Jezeph, J. Smith, Lewis, Sangha, K. Rowley, Probert, Delaney (Oliver), Henry, Shakespeare, L. Rowley (Pooni), Kouhyar (Owen). Subs not used: Reid, Ottley.
