Former loanee pens deal until the end of the season...
THE SADDLERS have signed Craig Westcarr on a deal until the end of the season.The 27 year-old former England Under-21 International has recently been on loan at the club and is delighted to be back for the challenges that lie ahead.
"I'm pleased to have signed this deal and now I just want to settle down and concentrate on my football," he said. "I'm really looking forward to the challenge. Since the very first day I arrived here, this club has always been a perfect fit for me and I believe that I can really progress here.
"The team that we have can really go places; there is a good mix of young, hungry lads and experience and we looked really solid as a unit during my loan spell. To be part of that again is great for me.
"Recent results have proven what we are capable of and now I want to play my part in helping us to really push on.
"My aim is to play regularly, stay fit and help the team get to where we want to be. Every game at this level is a challenge, but I am really looking forward to it."
Westcarr first burst onto the scene with Nottingham Forest where he became the youngest-ever player to appear for their first-team at the age of 16.
He joined Cambridge United in 2005 and had a successful season with the Abbey Stadium outfit before opting to join Kettering Town, whom he helped secure promotion into the Blue Square Premier with some lively and energetic displays.
He had a brief spell at Stevenage before returning to Kettering where he scored twice against Fulham in the fourth round of the FA Cup as well as helping The Poppies prosper in the League.
Snapped up by Notts County in readiness for the 2009/10 campaign, he duly helped the club claim the League Two Championship.
He was lured to East Midlands’ rivals, Chesterfield for an undisclosed fee in August 2011 and last term scored one of the goals at Wembley as they lifted the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.
