Copies of Steve Jenkins' Walsall book on sale now...

FOR SATURDAY'S home clash with Bradford City, Steve Jenkins will be joined by Walsall FC Legends, Chris Marsh and Mark Rees, to promote his new book on The Saddlers, 'Walking Down The Wednesbury Road'.

The trio will be signing copies, which are available for the very special price of £10, in the Banks's Stadium Club Shop from 1.30pm on Saturday and will also appear in The Bonser Suite and Stadium Suite as part of the pre-match entertainment.

For a man who has worked with some of the biggest names in the music industry during a long and successful career that has garnered over 260 gold and platinum records across the World and seen him involved with approaching 100 number one records, Steve Jenkins has never forgotten his roots or his greatest love of all – Walsall FC.

Last year saw him celebrate 50 years as a Saddler, that’s half-a-century of devotion that has seen him make epic journeys around the globe to see his heroes in action, form long-standing friendships with the players and even introduce the likes of Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake to the delights of The Saddlers!

From the day he first set foot inside Fellows Park as an eight year-old back in 1962, he has some fantastic memories and the local boy made good has put them all together in his latest book, ‘Walking Down The Wednesbury Road’.

“Writing the book was a real labour of love,” he said. “I started the project about two and-a-half years ago. It was during the harsh winter of 2010 where I was trapped in the house for long periods and decided to start writing all of my Saddlers’ memories down.

“Things developed pretty quickly and soon I was penning my second book, hot on the heels of my autobiography ’The Future is in the History’.

“It was a brave thing to do because the team was struggling at the foot of the League One table at the time, but thankfully Dean Smith came in and turned things around on the field, so that when I celebrated my 50th Anniversary of supporting the club this time last year, the future was looking a lot brighter.

“I feel that I have definitely captured what I set out to with this book. Writing my autobiography was tough as I had to deal with a lot of emotions but this was just pure pleasure and, even if I say so myself, there are some great stories included.

“It’s not a stats book nor a club history, it’s the memories of someone who has remained passionate about his hometown team over the years despite being fortunate in that his work has taken him to some fantastic places all over the World and allowed him to rub shoulders and work with some household names in the music industry.

“There is a mixture of funny, behind-the-scenes and personal stories that will really appeal to Walsall supporters.

“I’ve built up some long-standing friendships with Saddlers’ legends such as Chris Marsh and Mark Rees and, as you can imagine, they feature quite heavily in the book!”

Copies of ‘Walking Down The Wednesbury Road’ are now on advance sale from the Banks’s Stadium Club Shop for the special Saddlers’ price of £10.
