STARRING ROLE FOR CAIN

6 January 2015

Midfield man keen to play his part in creating history...

HAVING bagged his first goal for the club in the previous round of the competition, emerging midfield man, Michael Cain, is looking forward to our Johnstone's Paint Trophy Northern Area Final first leg clash at Preston North End on Wednesday evening (kick-off 7.45pm).

The Leicester City loanee has been in fine form in the engine room of The Saddlers' team and is keen to play his part in creating history for the club as we stand just 180 minutes away from a first-ever trip to Wembley Stadium.

"We showed real character in the previous round to get through and we'll be looking to take this into Wednesday's game," he said. "The fans really got behind the lads at Tranmere and our team spirit came through in the end. We're going to require more of the same again.

"I was delighted to get my first goal in that Tranmere game and hopefully I can add to that on Wednesday; I'm certainly trying my best to add to my tally by getting plenty of shots in.

"We'll go to Deepdale and play our own style. If we can play the type of football that we know we are capable of, we will excite a few people and give ourselves a platform to build on for the second leg."

Cain has been an ever-present since his October arrival and is revelling in the role he has in the team.

"It's nice to play as many games as possible," he added. "There is nothing better than playing competitive, first-team football in front of a crowd. I am learning all of the time here and having people like Adam Chambers alongside me is a massive bonus.

"I'm really enjoying it here; it's a good club to be part of and to play my part in helping us get to Wembley would be so special. The opportunity is there for us and we are looking forward to the challenge."
