Gaffer frustrated with Swindon defeat...
A frustrated Dean Smith admitted he felt like calling the police after Walsall's harsh 2-1 defeat at Swindon.Jonathan Obika’s first-half header put Town ahead but Tom Bradshaw’s 11th goal of the season levelled matters just past the hour mark.
And despite dominating throughout, Walsall were left empty handed after Louis Thompson's last-minute winner gave Swindon an unlikely victory.
“I feel like I should get on the phone, call the police and get someone arrested for this result,” said Smith.
“I can’t complain about our performance; I thought we were excellent. We dominated a team who normally dominate other teams with the ball.
“Unfortunately we made a mistake for their second goal but on the balance of play we were excellent.
“I was pleased with the character, we came back into it and I thought there was only going to be winner.
“I would have been disappointed with a point.”
As well as being frustrated with the result, Smith believed some key decisions went against his side.
“We had a stonewall penalty turned down in the first half,” said Smith.
“And Jordan Cook has also scored his first goal of the season – he’s a yard onside - but he gets flagged for offside.
“I felt sorry for the players because I felt at times we got kicked off the park as well; there were a lot of challenges from them going unpunished.
“They were trying to stop us at all costs because we were so far ahead and running the game, but it’s up to the officials to protect you.”
Walsall’s next match is against fellow promotion challenges Bradford – one of the division’s form teams – at the Banks’s this Saturday.
“They’re on a really good run, nine games unbeaten now,” Smith added.
“They’ve got some very good players so it’s going to be a really tough game.”
