SMITH: HENRY IS 'SOMETHING SPECIAL'

Manager praises youngster...

Walsall boss Dean Smith has described young left-back Rico Henry as ‘something special’.

The promising 18-year-old has been in sparkling form for the Saddlers this season, scoring two goals in 18 first-team matches.

He was also named the Football League’s Young Player of the Month for September and received his first call-up to the England U19s squad earlier this month.

And Henry, who signed a new contract in October, caught the eye once again in our last match at Swindon.

“To be honest, I was thinking about resting him on Tuesday night,” said Smith.

“You do worry about young kids when they’re playing Saturday - Tuesday – Saturday, and he’d just been away with England and had to deal with that.

“But he was excellent.

“The way he finished the game against Sheffield United made me not leave him out, which is tough because he’s got Andy Taylor breathing down his neck and he’s a really good player as well.

“But the kid is something special and on Tuesday night, he put in a special performance.”
