Manager and Player of the Month nominees...
WALSALL Manager, Dean Smith and midfielder, Sam Mantom, have been nominated for the Manager and Player of the Month awards for August.The Saddlers Boss has guided the club to an unbeaten opening month of the 2015/16 campaign, recording six successive wins and a draw from the first seven games in all competitions.
Smith masterminded victories over two championship sides in Nottingham Forest and Brighton and Hove Albion in the Capital One Cup as well as League wins over Southend United, Rochdale, Coventry City and Blackpool.
The only side to take a share of the spoils against Smith’s men in August were Oldham Athletic in their opening day 1-1 draw at the Banks’s Stadium.
Sam Mantom has been integral to the side’s success, playing every minute of all 7 games in August.
After missing large periods of last season through injury, the box-to-box midfielder worked tirelessly to get back to fitness over the summer and has hit the ground running this time around.
It took Mantom just three games to register his first goal of the new season, doubling our lead in a 2-0 away win over Southend United with a well taken strike from the edge of the box.
The number 8 found the net again in the very next game to cement a hard earned win over Rochdale before most recently heading home our third in a 4-0 win over Blackpool.
