Ahead of the event, saddlers.co.uk caught up with Karel Lush, Sing Baby Sing’s PR Manager, to find out more…

Q: First of all, how much are the group looking forward to performing at the Banks’s?
KL: The lads are very much looking forward to it. It’ll be their first time performing at Walsall FC and the lads just love what they do. They’re good mates and have a good laugh. They travel the country, singing the songs they love.

Q: Tell us a little bit more about the group.
KL: The group have been doing the Stylistics tribute act for six years now but have been musicians all their lives. Derek Green is a big-session singer and is actually doing the backing vocals for James Bay live at the Brits 2016. Carlton White is a producer, singer, writer and musician for TV, radio and theatre. Roy Carter is a base player who has been with Heatwave and The Foundations, while Ken White is a gospel singer and base guitarist. They’ve got real pedigree, having previously backed Stevie Wonder and also been on BBC Radio 4. Derek has also toured with Robbie Williams. They’re all very experienced musicians.

Q: Why did the group decide to do a tribute act to the Stylistics?
KL: They all loved their music and there wasn’t a Stylistics tribute band in the UK. Their songs are timeless and they wanted to pick something that wasn’t being done by lots of other people, something that would be unique to them. We actually know Eban Brown, the lead singer of the real Stylistics, who really admires the boys. He actually wants to work with them because they’re so good.

Q: What is the structure of the show?
KL: They will sing all of the Stylistics’ most popular songs, like ‘Betcha by Golly’, ‘You make me Feel Brand New’, ‘Stop Look Listen’ and ‘Rock and Roll Baby’. There’ll also be some other songs thrown in that will get people up dancing.

Q: So finally, what should people expect from the cabaret show?
KL: A very high quality show. It’s all about the harmonies, that’s what sets them aside from lots and lots of bands. They’ve got a rich harmony which only comes out of experience and years of friendship. They’ve been session musicians and in bands all their lives, and they have a lot of fun on stage. They interact well with the audience and it’s always a great night. They never disappoint.
