Former Shrews' loanee keen to help The Saddlers finish season strongly...
HAVING helped us get back into winning ways in our last game, Romaine Sawyers, is hoping that we can enjoy a successful end to the season.“Luck has not been on our side recently,” admitted the 22 year-old who served Saturday’s opponents, Shrewsbury Town, on loan during the 2011/12 campaign. “We’ve been consistent in our performances despite not winning, but things came together at Bradford and we finally got our reward.
“We’ve not allowed things to get to us during our winless run and now that we’ve got a victory under our belts, hopefully we can kick on from here and have a strong end to the season.
“We’ll concentrate on our performances in these final games and see where it takes us.”
Sawyers has been in good form this season having completed a permanent switch to Banks’s Stadium during the summer following his release by West Bromwich Albion.
“I’m enjoying it out there,” he continued. “I feel as though I have built up a good partnership with Craig Westcarr and I was pleased to see him back on the scoresheet in the last game – he took both of his goals really well.
“Now we are focussed on the challenge that Shrewsbury will provide to us. We have beaten them twice already this season and showed what we are capable of, but they come here desperate for the points to help them climb away from danger.
“I would think that they will come at us but hopefully we can counter-act it and really express ourselves.
“The fans also have their part to play in creating an atmosphere, as they did in our last home game.
“This is a local derby and some good backing from the supporters can really help us get the result that we desire.”
As one of Kick It Out’s ‘Next 20’ Ambassadors, Romaine Sawyers, will be visiting The Well in Walsall Wood on Wednesday.
The Well is a community hub that works closely with West Midlands Police, Walsall Council, Walsall Housing Group, Walsall NHS and a wide range of Third Sector organisations to address a number of social issues.
They have developed a Delivery Plan 2013 – 2016, which links into the wider Walsall Plan 2013 – 2016. The main aims of the plan are to address issues such as Health and Well Being and anti-social behaviour.
They are seeking to use football as a medium to address obesity, as well as engaging with marginalised young people.
Pupils from Oakwood School will also be attending the event as part of our commitment to reaching out into the local community.
