Players visit Walsall Manor Hospital...

POORLY children at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust have been handed Christmas presents by a number of very special sporting guests.

Saddlers' boss, Dean Smith, and his first-team squad handed out Christmas gifts to children on Ward 21 and children in the Family Health and Diagnostics Outpatient department.

The players spent time talking to the children and their families, some of whom will be spending Christmas in hospital.

Speaking about the visit, Dean Smith said: “The team look forward to taking time out of their schedule at this time of year to come to the Manor and visit the children. It’s really great to spend some time putting smiles on the children’s faces, to take their minds off being ill, even if it’s only for a short while.”

The visit has become an annual tradition at the hospital and Caroline Whyte, Matron on Ward 21 added: “The visit is a great boost to the children and their families who may be here over Christmas.  It’s also something that the staff look forward to as it brings a welcome break for them too. I would like to thank the team and their supporters for making Christmas a little more special for our children.”

Skipper, Adam Chambers, added: “We were all really pleased to come to the Manor and to visit the children on the ward. We would really like to wish all the children a Happy Christmas and all the best for a speedy recovery.”

The team presented the children with gifts that had been collected by the Walsall Football Supporters Trust ahead of our recent home game against Barnsley.
