NEW DEAL FOR SAWYERS

1 May 2014

Sawyers extends Saddlers' stay...

THE SADDLERS have been handed a timely boost with the news that Romaine Sawyers has penned a new deal with the club until the summer of 2016.

The 22 year-old has enjoyed a fruitful first full season in senior football with some impressive displays and seven goals along the way.

A technically-gifted and intelligent performer, he joined Walsall on a permanent basis from West Bromwich Albion during the summer having spent the final part of the previous campaign on loan at Banks’s Stadium.

Coming through the ranks at The Hawthorns, he found himself on the fringes of the first-team before making the switch to The Saddlers.

“It’s been an extremely productive season for Romaine,” said manager, Dean Smith. “I believe that he is a player with a lot of potential who has a big role to play in the future of this club.

“This has been his first full season in senior football and he has certainly showed enough to warrant this new deal.

“It’s been a long, hard season for him and he has made good progress. I expect him to continue going from strength-to-strength and I am delighted that he has signed this new deal.”
