WIN FOR RESERVES

26 February 2014

Griffiths goal gives Saddlers deserved win...

THE SADDLERS' reserve team ran out worthy 1-0 winners against Wigan Athletic.

The deciding goal came just past the hour-mark from Danny Griffiths who linked up well with Troy Hewitt.

"I was very pleased with our organisation," said reserve team boss, Richard O'Kelly. "Wigan have some talented young players who tried to play the game the right way and were technically very good.

"Our youngsters matched them and broke up their attacks well. I particularly thought that we communicated with each other well and it was an impressive team display which was rounded off with a well-worked goal to win it.

"The were good performances all over the park. Liam Roberts came in for his first game for five months and made some good saves; he will be delighted to have kept a clean sheet. Ashley Hemmings did well in an unfamiliar position and the likes of Kyle Rowley and Ben George can also be pleased with their contribution.

"As I say, there were plenty of positives to come out of the game, so I am very pleased."

WALSALL: Roberts, Heath, George, K. Rowley, Hemmings, McKenzie (Bakayoko), Flanagan, McQuilkin (Kinsella), Morris, Griffiths (Rush), Hewitt. Sub not used: Lovett.
