WIN FOR RESERVES

1 April 2014

Victory in the spring sunshine for second-string...

THE SADDLERS' reserve team ran out 2-0 winners against Shrewsbury Town at a sunny Church Road.

A fine strike from Jake Heath during the first half and then a second half spot-kick from Kieron Morris, which he won himself, were enough to give Richard O'Kelly's side the victory.

"We moved the ball very well at times," said O'Kelly. "We were technically good and well-organised, restricting our opponents to very few chances.

"We could have created a few more opportunities ourselves, but in the end we ran out deserved winners.

"I felt that Nicky Featherstone and Jake Heath were accomplished in the middle of the part and Kieron Morris worked well out wide.

"It was a great strike from Jake; he put in an impressive display today and was helped greatly by Nicky alongside him.

"I was disappointed that we did not press more and work more as a unit in the final 20 minutes or so. It was a hot day and the conditions didn't help, but we have to be able to overcome such things.

"That said, we will be better for the experience and we take the positives from the win."

WALSALL: Jones, Ashmore (Dallison), Benning, Christopherou, George, Featherstone, Rush (A. Reid), Heath, Hewitt (Bakayooko), Morris, McKenzie. Sub not used: Lovett.

Our final reserve game of the season is against Port Vale and will now take place on Tuesday, April 8th with a 2.30pm on the Port Vale training pitch at Vale Park.
