HONOURS EVEN IN TOUGH CONDITIONS

31 March 2015

Reserves share the spoils with Port Vale...

THE SADDLERS' reserves shared the spoils with Port Vale in a game that was played in difficult conditions.

Amadou Bakayoko opened the scoring early in the second half before our hosts levelled matters and that is how the scoreline remained.

"The conditions are best described as horrendous," said second-string boss, Richard O'Kelly. "There were high winds, hail and driving rain, but credit to both teams as they gave it a real go.

"We were a little disjointed in the first half, but were dogged and battled away.

"There was a real improvement in our play after the break and we deservedly took the lead following a well-worked team goal which Amadou finished with aplomb on 54 minutes as he latched onto a fine cross from Jamie Smith.

"We continued to do well with and without the ball and created a number of opportunities before Vale equalised with a scrappy goal and that's how the scoreline remained."

WALSALL: MacGillivray, J. Smith, Benning, Probert, Preston, Kinsella, Delaney, Flanagan, Bakayoko (Kouhyar 81), Shakespeare (L. Rowley 75), Murphy. Subs not used: K. Rowley, Jezeph.
