Former Saddler passes away...

WE ARE sad to report the passing of former Saddlers' skipper, Reg Foulkes, at the age of 91.

Having won honours at Schoolboy level for England and had trials with both Manchester United and Birmingham City as a youngster, he eventually joined the Fellows Park groundstaff in 1938 before turning professional for The Saddlers during the war.

An accomplished centre half who was cool and calm on the ball, he guested for Walsall and Birmingham City during the war and made his senior debut for The Saddlers in a game against Norwich City November 1945.

Making a total of 175 senior outings for the club, during which time he was also used as an emergency centre forward on occasions, he went on to join Norwich City in May 1950 and gave the Canaries sterling service over the course of almost 240 appearances.

In May 1956 he became player-manager of Wisbech Town before moving on to King's Lynn and then Ceyms FC.

He later returned to live in his hometown of Shrewsbury.

The thoughts of everyone here at Banks's Stadium are with his family and friends at this sad time.
