BLOXWICH super lightweight, Luke Paddock, is looking to “exorcise some demons” when he returns to the Banks’s Stadium on December 18th.The 23-year old suffered the first defeat of his professional career in September when on the wrong end of a narrow 95-96 scorecard following a pulsating bout with Andy Keates.
‘Cool Hand’ returns to the home of Walsall Football Club next month to face Plymouth’s Chris Adaway for the British Super-Lightweight Challenge Title and insists he’s got some unfinished business to tend to.
“Obviously it was a bit disappointing not getting the win against Andy,” Paddock admitted. “I thought I had done enough on the night but it’s part of boxing, if you’re afraid of losing then don’t box it’s as simple as that.
“I’ll be coming back down to the Banks’s to exorcise some demons that’s for sure.”
Paddock became embroiled in a toe-to-toe war with Stoke scrapper Keates three months ago, a tactic, which the Bloxwich man himself admitted, didn’t suit his style.
This time around, the lifelong Walsall supporter will be aiming to showcase his superior technical skills whilst addressing his shortcomings following the first blotch on his record.
“I learnt a lot about myself from the fight,” he added. “I’ve got character, guts and I got through it with a few war wounds.
“I had a cut above my eye which I’ve never experienced so I’ve ticked a lot of boxes now.
“I’m under no illusions either. I’m still a good boxer, and everyone knows I’m a good technical fighter. The only thing is and I’m not going to deny it, is that I probably lack a little bit of strength.
“But we’ve been working on it in the gym and everything is going to plan.
“Steve Hawthorn, Paul Gough and Rob Wright have all got me in the gym and I’ve been grafting away in there.
“I’m looking forward to this one.
“I’ve had a whirlwind of a few months and had some personal problems outside the ring but it’s all about the future now and not looking back.”
Paddock headlines Black Country Boxing’s three-fight event, ‘Christmas Cracker’, alongside stalemates Lennox Clarke and Adam Harper.
The event takes place in the Stadium Suite, Banks’s Stadium, on Friday, 18th December.
