#ONTHEROAD WINNER RECEIVES HIS PRIZE

16 May 2016

Walsall fan wins a car!

It’s not every day you go to a football match and come away having won a brand new car.

But that is exactly what happened to lifelong Walsall supporter Matthew Dodd - now the proud owner of a Kia Picanto - at our recent home game with Fleetwood Town.

Throughout the 2015/16 league campaign, we encouraged supporters to send us their away-day selfies as part of our #OnTheRoad competition, in association with Acorn Group.

The three fans to send in the most photos were then given the chance to win a car during half-time of the Fleetwood home match.

Our three finalists - Charlotte Dean, Matthew Dodd and David Waddison – were paired with an ex-Walsall player, who had 30 seconds to chip as many footballs into a car boot as possible.

The former player to get the most footballs into the boot would win their fan a car!

Charlotte was paired with Harry Harris, who went first but failed to get any balls into the boot. Sean Geddes, representing Matthew, went second and chipped in two. And finally, George Bowerman, chipping on behalf of David, got one ball in – meaning Matthew was the winner!

“I feel over the moon to have won a brand new car,” admitted Matthew, who collected his prize at the Banks’s Stadium on Friday.

“I never usually win anything and this is the first major thing I’ve ever won. I never expected to win it.

“It’s been good following Walsall on the road this season - we’ve won a lot of games - and I can’t believe it has led to me winning a car!”

John Abnett, the Managing Director of Acorn Group, added: “It’s a terrific prize and we wanted to do something to recognise the efforts of the away fans.

“I’ve been a Saddlers fan for over 40 years and I’ve travelled all around the country watching us play. It takes a lot of time and dedication.

“We felt giving away a car was a great reward for a fan and I’m especially pleased it’s gone to Matthew, who has been to every away game this season.”
