Emerging front-man enjoying life at Worcester City...
TALENTED youngster, Jordan Murphy, believes that his fruitful loan spell at Conference North side, Worcester City, is helping him improve as a player.The Birmingham-born 18-year-old has become an integral part of City’s side since making the loan switch almost two months ago.
Murphy believes that playing regular football can only aid his development and has adapted well to life at Aggborough.
“I’m really enjoying it, all the lads have taken to me and they are looking after me,” said Murphy, who came up through the ranks at Stourbridge before making the switch to The Saddlers earlier this season. "It has been a massive experience; it has helped me learn about the physical side of men’s football. The movements and reactions have to be a little bit faster and I’m able to come back here and take that into playing for the reserves."
The forward is also relishing the FA Cup run that the non-League side are on at the moment, having defeated League One outfit, Coventry City - The Saddlers' opponents on Saturday - at the Ricoh Arena in the last round.
“In the FA Cup run that we are on, I had the chance to play at the Ricoh against a very good Coventry side," he added. "It’s the standard I need to be aiming for, so to get that opportunity was massive.
"To even be a part of it was big, but to start and play the full game was brilliant and I felt that I learnt a lot during those 90 minutes."
Worcester will face Scunthorpe United in the second round of the competition, giving Murphy the chance to pit his wits against another side from English football’s third tier.
“It’s another big League One side; it’s another chance for me to put myself out there. Hopefully trying to do a bit more, get on the ball a bit more and just show what I can do really.”
Murphy was speaking after playing for the reserves at The Scholars Ground on Tuesday afternoon. Goals from Billy Clifford, Keiron Morris and Reece Flanagan gave a youthful second-string a 3-0 victory over a more experienced Shrewsbury Town side.
“It was a brilliant performance from all the lads, to be fair,” he went on. “We knew what we had to do. We knew our roles, our jobs and how we were going to win and we executed it perfectly.”
