Emerging wide-man agrees two-year contract...
THE SADDLERS are delighted to announce that talented winger, Kieron Morris, has today signed a new two-year deal here at Banks’s Stadium.The 20 year-old, who has made 13 appearances for Dean Smith’s side this season, returned from an impressive loan spell at Conference Premier side, Wrexham, at the start of the month.
During his time at The Racecourse Ground, Morris scored some vital goals in helping the club reach the FA Trophy Final at Wembley in which he featured.
Since returning from his spell in Wales, he has played a key role in The Saddlers’ seven-game unbeaten run, scoring twice.
“I’m really pleased,” said Morris, who has signed a new deal until the summer of 2017. “Since I came back from Wrexham I’ve started seven games in a row and tried to make an impact and be as consistent as possible.
“I knew when I went out on loan I had to impress and in my first game back the pressure was on to perform well.
“I knew the standard would be harder and the tempo would be quicker but I feel like I’ve adapted to it well.
“The first 30 minutes was quite a blow and my lungs were going but since then I’ve slotted straight back in.
“Now it’s out the way I’m ready to kick on next season.”
Morris had a taste of first-team football with The Saddlers earlier in the season, scoring a late winning goal in our Capital One Cup tie against Southend United.
The Hereford-born prospect has found the net on four more occasions since and insists it’s a side to his game that has developed over time.
“I was scoring goals [at Wrexham], so I knew when I came back that I had the potential to pull the trigger,” he added. “When I get the chance to shoot, as long as I hit the target, I feel like I’ve got a good chance of scoring.
“As a team we’ve gone undefeated since I’ve been back and we’re on a bit of a roll.
“We’ve been putting in some good performances against some good sides and the goals seem to have returned as well.
“If we can continue next year how we are finishing this season then we’ve got a great chance of a play-off challenge.”
Morris is one of seven academy graduates to make a senior appearance this season and revealed how manager, Dean Smith, plays an influential role in the progression of young players.
“I’ve known him for four years now since I was an apprentice here and he’s great with the young lads,” Morris added. “He gives you lots of confidence and the freedom to go and express yourself.
“This club has always been good for giving young talent a chance and I feel like I’ve got a chance of playing first-team football here.
“Next year I want to play as many games as possible and just keep improving.”
