Key midfield man extends deal...
THE SADDLERS have today secured the services of another key member of the playing staff as Sam Mantom has put pen-to-paper on a new two and-a-half year deal, which keeps him at the club until the summer of 2016.
Mantom is a former England Under-17 International who came through the ranks at West Bromwich Albion before joining Walsall on a permanent basis in January 2013 following successful loan spells in which he proved to be a technically-gifted performer with excellent passing ability and work-rate.
He is now an important figure in the engine room of the side and manager, Dean Smith is delighted to see him become the latest player to commit to a longer-term contract.
“I am really pleased that Sam has committed his future to us,” he said. “Since he first arrived here, he’s been a permanent fixture in the team.
“He’s got better and better and is a player with enormous potential. I am looking forward to continuing to work with him and develop him as we develop as a club.
“He’s a calm and sensible lad with lots of qualities; he can score goals from midfield and has a big role to play for us as we look to continue our upward trend.”
