OLDHILL lightweight, Manny Zaber, insists he will make up for his lack of amateur experience by outgunning his professional opponents.The 20-year old’s six-round shut out over Matt Seawright made it two wins from two bouts for the recently turned professional and he was thankful to add to his growing experience.
“Matt’s[Seawright] an awkward journeyman.” He admitted.“I was glad go get ring time and to gain more experience in there.
“He was tricky at times but it’s what they’re there for. Thankfully I got through the rounds and felt really strong in there.
“At this stage in career that’s all that matters. Making sure I get the minutes in and keep improving with every fight.
“I’ve got some more in the bag and now I want to move on.”
And moving on he is.
The ‘Pac Man’ Zaber makes a return to the Banks’s Stadium this weekend on the undercard ofBlack Country Boxing’s 7-fight show, ‘Fast and the Fierce’.
Stourbridge scrapper Steven Pearce headlines the event whilst Zaber takes on Swindon’s Joe Beeden (1-28-1). With just 36 days between fights, the all action lightweight is eager to get back in the ring and put a show for the paying punters.
“Nothing compares to when you step through those ropes,” he added.“You can do all the training in the world but it’s a different story when you’re in there on the night.
“Sparring is the closest thing to it but even then you have to step it up a level when it’s the actual fight.
“It was a great atmosphere at the Banks’s last month. It’s a nice little venue because everyone is on top of you and you really feel the crowd.
“I’m glad I got chance to thank all supporters as well because without them I wouldn’t be able to box.
“I’ve always said I try and put a show on for the people that pay their hard earned money to come and watch me fight. I want to give all of them their moneys worth.
“Of course it’s about winning but it’s about entertaining as well.”
Having homed his skills in the unlicensed game, Zaber concedes that many of his counterparts will have enjoyed a more polished route to the professional ranks.
Though that’s not going to deter the spirited youngster, who is happy to rely on his aggressive style.
“I know that once I start climbing up the ladder, I’ll come up against better fighters than me,” he admitted. “I’ve got no amateur experience at all so they’ll be slicker but they won’t be fight with the same intensity as I do.
“Naturally, you get nervous when you turn up on the night but I try and use that to my advantage. It keeps my head on the job.
“I love coming forward and I’m sure I’ll get a knockout sooner or later as well. If it comes this time around then it comes but at the moment I just want to keep winning.
“It doesn’t really matter who I am up against to be honest. If I turn up on the night, perform like I know I can and do my job right there’s no way I’m getting beat.”
Zaber is fighting on Black Country Boxing’s ‘Fast and Fierce’ bill, headlined by Steven Pearce’s warm up fight with ArvydasTrizno, as he also prepares for an English Title shot – against Adam Little in December.
The seven-fight night of action also features Sam Evans, Andy Keates, Anthony Upton, Kieron McLaren and Reuben Arrowsmith.
