COOK FOCUSED ON THE TEAM

3 October 2015

Cook committed to the cause...

Striker Jordan Cook says he is prepared to play out of position if it means “doing a job” for the team.

The 25-year-old, who has mainly played out wide this season, has featured in 13 of the Saddlers’ 14 competitive matches.

And although Cook would rather be deployed up front, he insists he will play anywhere for the cause.

“I want to be up front and off the striker as I believe I’m more effective when I play through the middle than out wide,” said Cook.

“But if the gaffer wants me to do a job out wide, then I’ll play there and do my best for the team.

“He knows what I can do and what I bring to the team, and I’m prepared to play in different positions for him.

“I want to get goals and assists but most of all I want to help the team win games.

“If that means playing out wide and doing a job in the last 20 minutes then I don’t mind.”

Cook was included in the Saddlers’ starting XI for Tuesday’s 1-0 win at Scunthorpe – his first start in the league since the opening day.

“I thought I did alright,” said Cook.

“There are some things I can improve on.

“Match sharpness isn’t something I’ve got at the moment as I haven’t played as many games as I would have liked.

“I had a couple of chances.

“With the header, their lad slipped in front of me and I could have brought it down. But I’d already made a move for the ball and the keeper made a good save.

"My left-footed shot was just off target but I caught it well.

“But it was good to get an assist. It was a brilliant team move and a great finish from Rico (Henry). That type of move is something we’ve been doing in training all the time.”

The Saddlers will be hoping for a repeat result against the Latics this afternoon.

Kick-off at the DW Stadium is at 3.00pm.
