Isaiah Osbourne signs a one-year-deal with the club...

WALSALL Football Club have secured the services of Birmingham-born midfielder, Isaiah Osbourne on a one-year deal.

The former Aston Villa trainee links up with Dean Smith after spending last season with fellow League One outfit Scunthorpe United. The 27 year-old made 27 appearances for the Irons last season but did not feature against the Saddlers for Mark Robins' men.

"He's a lad who came in last season to train with us and was struggling for fitness at the time," admitted Smith. "He ended up going to Scunthorpe but he's a player I've always liked and he's a likeable person as well.

"We've had him back in on trial and he's proved his fitness so we're delighted to have agreed a contract with him.

"He will certainly improve us with his ability and experience in midfield and gives us another option in that department as well."

Osbourne came through the ranks at Villa park before making his Premier League debut under Martin O'Neil in April 2006. After enjoying successful loan spells at Nottingham Forest, Middlesborough and Sheffield Wednesday, he made the move north of the boarder, signing a two-and-a-half year deal with Hibernian in 2011.

The talented midfielder returned to English football with Blackpool the following summer, where he made 52 appearances during his two seasons at Bloomfield Road.

He initially joined Scunthorpe on a three-month deal in October 2014 but impressed enough to extend his stay to the end of last season.
