Demetriou and Etheridge on international duty...

SADDLERS stars, Jason Demetriou and Neil Etheridge, experienced mixed fortunes on international duty last night.

Right-back, Demetriou, played the full 90 minutes of Cyprus’ 1-0 home defeat to Wales in European Championship qualifying.

A late header from Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale gave Wales victory, leaving Cyprus fourth in Group B with nine points from seven matches.

They are back in action on Sunday when they host a star-studded Belgium side who are currently second in the FIFA World Rankings.

Meanwhile, Walsall goalkeeper, Etheridge, kept a clean sheet as the Philippines won 2-0 against the Maldives in an international friendly.

The serious action begins for the Philippines on Tuesday, 8th September when they take on Uzbekistan in World Cup qualifying.

Both Demetriou and Etheridge are unavailable for the Saddlers’ match with Bury tomorrow afternoon, but will be back for the home fixture against Doncaster on Saturday, 12th September.
