BOSS ON BANK HOLIDAY DRAW

Smith reflects on Gills' clash...

SADDLERS' boss, Dean Smith, has reflected upon our 1-1 Bank Holiday Monday draw with Gillingham.

"I'm at a loss to explain how we have not won this game," he said. "We were a lot more like ourselves, especially in the second half when we played with a bit of zip and vigor and created numerous chances which, unfortunately, we couldn't take.

"I felt that we started the game well for the opening five minutes or so and then things tended to fizzle out for the remainder of the first half, although we did keep the ball well without creating too much.

"As I say, the second half was much more like what we are about; we played with energy and enthusiasm but whilst it is only 1-0 and with players like Cody McDonald on the pitch, they always had a chance.

"We know that our results at home are not as good as they should be. We've played some good stuff and our performance levels have been high, but we've not scored enough.

"The supporters want to be entertained and they got behind us after the break. Sometimes when teams come here and back up we have to be patient."
