TEAM TALK v GILLINGHAM, 20/9/14

18 September 2014

Boss looks ahead...

IT'S a case of putting Tuesday's game at Rochdale to bed now and moving on to the challenge that we face at Gillingham on Saturday.

We went back through the game on Wednesday, discussed it at length with every playing taking the opprtunity to have their say, and now it is boxed off.

I will always defend my players, but when they become indefensible as they were on Tuesday, I can't and won't do it.

It was even more frustrating because we played so well to beat a good Preston North End side in our previous game.

The manner in which we conceded our goals was very poor and it ranks as one of the worst performances of my time in charge. Suffice to say that it won't happen again.

It's all about going to Gillingham and getting a result.

We will assess both Adam Chambers and Tom Bradshaw ahead of the game and whilst Sam Mantom, Ben Purkiss, James Chambers and Jordan Cook are all closing in on a return to action, they will not be ready for this weekend.

Gillingham had a great result during the week and I watched them at Coventry recently, so we know that they are a good side who have started the season well.

We won't fear going there, though, and I will be looking for a reaction from my players. They have said the right things and now it is time to get out there and put it into practice.

The important thing is to never lose the belief and the philosophy of what this club is all about. Yes, we have been limited by injury, but we know what we are capable of and I want to see us reach those levels, starting this weekend.
