Taylor determined to get back out there at Gillingham...
SADDLERS' defender, Andy Taylor, insists his team-mates will be heading to Gillingham on Saturday looking to 'right the wrongs' of their disappointing midweek defeat to Rochdale.Dean Smith’s men were on the wrong side of a 4-0 scoreline on Tuesday evening but Taylor says the players are eager to bounce back this weekend.
“We’re obviously bitterly disappointed with the Tuesdays result but the beauty of football is that there’s always another game around the corner” said the experienced full-back. “We know the performance as well as the scoreline wasn’t acceptable but if we can go to Gillingham and come away with three points, then two wins in three games isn’t a bad return in the space of seven days.”
The Gills recorded an impressive 2-1 win over table-topping Peterborough United on Tuesday but Taylor insists The Saddlers have what it takes to come back from Kent with all three points.
“Results have shown that anybody can beat anybody on their day so we know it will be difficult but we head into the game with a point to prove and hopefully we can bounce straight back," he added. “We know how competitive this League is but we believe we can go down there and win the game."
The 28 year-old has been the cornerstone of an injury hit defence this season but says the young players who have stepped in have deputised well.
“We all know about the number of injuries but it’s given the young lads a chance to come in and show what they can do” said the former Sheffield United man. “They’ve took their chance with both hands and it will give the manager a headache when the injured lads come back into the squad which is the aim of every young player.
“Hopefully though some of the lads out will come back into the fold soon and I’m sure we’ll be stronger for it.”
