DEVON DIARY: CRAIG PRAISE FOR CUTS

15 July 2014

New 'keeper making good progress...

SUMMER signing, Craig MacGillivray, feels that he is already benefitting from the work that he is doing under Goalkeeping Coach, Neil Cutler.

“I’ve only been here for three weeks, but Cuts has taught me so much,” said the highly-rated youngster. “He’s been brilliant, as has Richard O’Donnell, and I have noticed an improvement already, so hopefully that will continue.

“The work has been tough but the attention to detail is fantastic and I can’t fail to develop in this kind of environment.

“Coming away for a week with the lads will be of great help to me; we all watched the World Cup Final together on our first night and that was great for bonding.

“I’ve been at clubs where you don’t feel included straight away, but this has been totally different. I don’t feel like I have to force my way in. The lads have included me from the start and that kind of team spirit is sure to stand us in good stead.

“It’s exactly what you want as a new lad and already on this trip I feel very much part of the group.

“The work has been hard, but I expected nothing else. We’ve had some good sessions with short, sharp stuff, which is exactly what is required at this time of the year.

“It’s nice to have a Goalkeeping Coach because previously I’ve had to work on my own or with the rest of the outfield players.”

The former Harrogate Town man is looking forward to Wednesday’s first game of the tour as we take on Taunton Town.

“The main thing is to get minutes under my belt,” he added. “I got 30 minutes against Wigan on Friday and now I am looking for more game time on Wednesday, especially as it will be my first game in front of the fans.

“Training is all well and good but it is in match situations where you can perfect things and get to know everyone’s different styles and techniques.

“I want to do the best I can for myself and the team; the most important thing, though, is to enjoy it and I am certainly enjoying being around the lads at the moment and the banter which has been flying!

“Hopefully we can get a positive result at Taunton and then take things from there.”
